September 24th, 2018 – "What Journalists Need to Know About Artificial Intelligence in the Financial Industry"

What does AI do? When you're doing your online banking and need customer assistance, are you chatting with a person or a bot? What else is AI doing at retail banks, at the teller counter and in the back office? How about at investment banks, clearinghouses and throughout the worldwide financial system? And what is the future of AI? Will Skynet become self-aware and send cyborgs from the future to kill Sarah Connor?

You don't need to be a data scientist to understand the concepts and, as financial journalists, we all need to be aware of the increasing impact machine learning is having on how business gets done.

We're fortunate to have as guest speaker at our next drink night Lance Koonce, Esq., a partner at Davis Wright Tremaine who specializes in intellectual property, media and technology. Lance leads DWT's blockchain practice and is a member of the firm's Artificial Intelligence group.  He writes and speaks frequently on IP and technology issues, including blockchain technology, AI, and digital privacy.  He is the founder of the Creative Blockchain blog (www.creativeblockchain.com), and is co-chair of the subcommittee on Intellectual Property and Privacy of the Enterprise Ethereum Alliance's Legal Industry Working Group, as well co-chair of the Law & Technology section of the New York County Lawyers Association.
