Cezary Podkul Named NYSSCPA Award Winner

Congratulations to NYFWA member and current board member Cezary Podkul on being named the winner of the New York State Society of CPA’s 2014 EFJ Award for the Best Explanatory article. The award, which is presented to journalists, reporters and authors for 10 different categories, recognizes outstanding work among both local and national media whose work contributes to a better understanding of business and financial topics. According to the NYSSCPA’s, Cezary was chosen as a winner in the best explanatory category “for his reporting and writing about a little understood financial debacle created by state and local governments who borrowed against their share of the Big Tobacco legal settlement turning a multi-generational windfall into a multi-generational legacy of debt.” His award-winning article, “How Wall Street Tobacco Deals Left States with Billions in Toxic Debt,” can be found here: http://www.propublica.org/article/how-wall-street-tobacco-deals-left-states-with-billions-in-toxic-debt
