Cezary Podkul Named NYSSCPA Award Winner

Congratulations to NYFWA member and current board member Cezary Podkul on being named the winner of the New York State Society of CPA’s 2014 EFJ Award for the Best Explanatory article. The award, which is presented to journalists, reporters and authors for 10 different categories, recognizes outstanding work among both local and national media whose work contributes to a better understanding of business and financial topics.

Our Sympathy to Carolyn Crapo

The NYFWA would like to extend its condolences to longtime NYFWA member and current board member, Carolyn Crapo, following the passing of her father Ray Crapo. Mr. Crapo passed away on April 5 at the age of 78, following an extended illness. He will be buried on Friday, April 10th following a mass at St. Barnabas Church in the Bronx. Viewing and visiting hours will take place on Wed., April 8 and Thurs., April 9 from 2 p.m. – 4 p.m. & 7 p.m. – 9:00 p.m.. at David J. Hodder & Son Funeral Home 899 McLean Ave., Yonkers, NY

Sherry Hsieh Name Reporter at Real Estate Fund Manager

NYFWA member Sherry Hsieh has been named a reporter for Pageant Media's Real Estate Fund Manager. Sherry, an invaluable member of the cast of this past year's Financial Follies, is a recent graduate of New York University.

Alexander Plough Joins Debtwire

NYFWA member Alexander Plough has been named a reporter at Debtwire, where he will be covering leveraged finance in North America with particular attention to the loan market. Prior to joining Debtwire, Alexander, a recent graduate from the Columbia Univesrsity Graduate School of Journalism, covered the mutual fund industry for Citywire and was a data journalist for the Reuters Foundation.

Straight Talk Ethics Debate Fuels Interesting Discussion

NYFWA members enjoyed a unique panel examining ethics in financial journalism on Thursday, March 26th, an event that focused heavily on the impact digital journalism has had on ethics as a whole.

March 26, 2015 – Straight Talk Ethics Debate

The last six months have seen intense debate over ethics in digital journalism, in part following a column in The Washington Post that examined a complaint about a journalist alleged to have manipulated biotech stocks. The New York Financial Writers Association will host a lively debate featuring a panel of well-known editors who will discuss what's acceptable -and what's not- in digital journalism.
