May 13, 2019 –Wealth Reporting: How to Cover the Richest of The Rich

Join the NYFWA for an evening with New York's most esteemed wealth reporters to discuss how to cover the nation's wealthiest 1 percent. The panel will address how to dig into documents to unearth tax secrets, track the net worth of billionaires and convince elusive people to talk. Panelists include: 

  • Susanne Craig: Investigative reporter for The New York Times and a 2019 Pulitzer Prize winner for her investigation into President Trump's family finances.
  • Devon Pendleton: Wealth reporter at Bloomberg who covers multi-millionaires and billionaires and their investments, hobbies, drama and influence.
  • Anders Melin: Wealth reporter at Bloomberg who covers executive compensation and executive search from the intersection of money, power and ego.
  • Mary Childs: Award-winning journalist and senior reporter at Barron's Magazine, where she covers hedge fund managers and wealthy investors.

The panel will be moderated by Columbia Professor of Business Journalism Winnie O'Kelley, formerly of The New York Timesand now an executive editor at Bloomberg. The panel will delve into how the richest people in the world make their money -- and lose it -- and how we, as journalists, can effectively tell their stories. The evening will begin at 6 p.m. with a reception featuring drinks and appetizers, followed by the presentation of the 2019 NYFWA scholarships. The panel discussion will begin at 7 p.m. and the evening will wrap up by 8:30.
