March 26, 2015 –Straight Talk Ethics Debate
The last six months have seen intense debate over ethics in digital journalism, in part following a column in The Washington Post that examined a complaint about a journalist alleged to have manipulated biotech stocks. The New York Financial Writers Association will host a lively debate featuring a panel of well-known editors who will discuss what's acceptable -and what's not- in digital journalism.
The evening will feature panelists from The Wall Street Journal and Bloomberg News, among other ethics experts in news media, who will debate the changing practices and standards of journalism from print to online, as well as ethics issues for social media platforms. There will also be drinks and light appetizers.
Space for this event is limited to the first 50 NYFWA members to respond -who must be in good standing to attend. RSVP's are mandatory. *If your name is not on the guest list, you will not be able to get past security to gain admission to this event.

February 23, 2015 –February Networking Night

December 15, 2014 – Application Deadline for McGraw Fellowship for Business Journalism
Do you -- or a reporter you know -- have a great idea for a long form story on a business or economic topic that you'd like to produce, but few resources to get it done?
The deadline is fast approaching for fall applications for The McGraw Fellowship for Business Journalism, a new initiative of the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism designed to support ambitious coverage of critical issues related to U.S. business and the economy. The Fellowships provide up to $15,000 to experienced journalists to do the deep reporting needed to produce a distinguished investigative, enterprise or narrative business story.
McGraw Fellowships are awarded twice a year, in spring and late fall. The upcoming deadline to apply is December 15, 2014. October 27, 2014 – Common Ground Committee to Host Debate on Income Inequality
The Common Ground Committee is holding a public forum/debate on the topic “Finding Common Ground on Income Inequality.” The event will take place on Monday, October 27th at 7:30 p.m. at the 92n Street Y in Manhattan.
The debate will feature, Jared Bernstein, former economic adviser to Vice President Joe Biden and Larry Kudlow, host of the syndicated radio program, “The Larry Kudlow Show,” a CNBC contributor and former host of CNBC’s program, “The Kudlow Report.” Panel moderator is John Yemma, editor-at-large of the Christian Science Monitor. Panelists will explore the controversial concept of income inequality and discuss what policy measures might mitigate the widening income gap and strengthen the American economy for the benefit of all its citizens.
