August 7, 2019 –Beyond Type: Distilling Your Data Through Infographics and Visual Storytelling

Learn to think visually using best practices for creating compelling and effective infographics and other visual storytelling to both augment written stories and help promote them on social media. Nick DeSantis, an editorial graphics producer for Forbes, will highlight the following:

  • Use cases for specific types of infographics (line graphs, pie charts, candlestick charts, etc.)
  • Distilling data graphically for a succinct but successful takeaway for your readers
  • Choosing a color palette effectively and appropriately
  • Photos, graphics, and other visual styling within data visualization: When (and when not) to use them
  • Examples of GIFs and motion graphics for story promotion on social
  • Data visualization problem-solving examples/anecdotes
  • Practical ways non-designers could create accurate infographics using web tools
