January 4, 2019 – Deadline to Apply For McGraw Fellowship for Business Journalism

Grants up to $15K to Produce High-Impact Business Journalism — Apply by 1/4/19

Applications are now open for the Winter 2019 McGraw Fellowship for Business Journalism, an initiative of the Newmark Graduate School of Journalism at CUNY designed to support high-impact economic and business journalism. The McGraw Fellowships provide up to $15,000 and editorial support for experienced journalists to produce deeply-reported investigative or enterprise stories on important economic, financial or business topics. No residency is required; McGraw Fellows work from their own offices. Open to freelance journalists, as well as staff reporters and editors working at news organizations. Five years professional journalism experience is needed. The upcoming deadline for Winter 2019 Fellowship applications is January 4, 2019; Summer 2019 applications will be due June 28, 2019.

What kind of work do we support? Previous McGraw Fellows have worked on a wide range of topics – and you don't need to be a business reporter to apply. Many McGraw Fellows have been generalists, or cover other beats such as health care or the environment. Here are a few examples:

•    Range Wars: A copper rush sparks last-ditch battles for Arizona's soul Harper's

•    What Would Jesus Disrupt? Bloomberg Businessweek

•    Towns sell their water systems — and come to regret it Washington Post

•    How Parents Buckle Under the Weight of College Debt US News & World Report

•    Who's behind the Chinese takeover of the world's biggest pork producer? PBS NewsHour

•    Two Nations, One Aquifer: A series about water at the border Albuquerque Journal
