March 8th, 2023 – 46th Annual Elliott V. Bell Award Ceremony Honoring Ellen Pollock

Join members and friends of the New York Financial Writers’ Association for a special evening on March 8th honoring the 2021 recipient of the Elliott V. Bell Award, Ellen Pollock, the business editor of The New York Times.

Pollock is the 46th annual recipient of the award, which honors journalists who have made a significant contribution to the field of financial journalism and is named after NYFWA’s inaugural president, Elliott V. Bell. Since 1976, many of the biggest names in financial journalism have joined the list of Elliott V. Bell Award alumni, including Andy Serwer, John McCorry, Gretchen Morgenson, James B. Stewart, Allan Sloan, Paul Steiger and Carol Loomis, among others.

The award committee recognized Pollock for her longtime commitment to financial journalism and her significant impact on determining the direction of news coverage for some of the biggest stories over the past few decades. Her editing and reporting skills span a wide range of topics including business and finance, economics, technology and media coverage.

Pollock began her journalism career at The American Lawyer magazine. She later spent 18 years at The Wall Street Journal, becoming a senior special writer and deputy Page One editor. Articles she worked on at the Journal won Pulitzer Prizes in 2003 and 2005. In 2007 she joined BusinessWeek magazine, which became Bloomberg Businessweek in 2009. While she was executive editor, Bloomberg Businessweek won a National Magazine Award for general excellence in 2012. And in 2015 she became the first woman to serve as editor-in-chief of the magazine. She held the position for a year and became business editor of The Times in 2017. 

As part of the evening, Pollock will sit down with Peter Coy, NYFWA’s president and an economics writer for the New York Times Opinion section, to discuss some of the biggest changes she has seen in journalism throughout the course of her career.
