November 7th, 2019 – The Billionaire Murders: Award-winning journalist Kevin Donovan talks murder, mystery and money

Join the NYFWA for an evening with award-winning investigative reporter Kevin Donovan to discuss his new book: "The Billionaire Murders." Donovan is Chief Investigative Reporter at the Toronto Star and was first assigned to dig into the murders of billionaire couple Barry and Honey Sherman three weeks after their mysterious deaths. The couple were discovered strangled in the basement of their Toronto mansion in late 2017. To date, the murders remain unsolved.

Donovan has probed the entire case -- interviewing more than 200 people, arguing for access to legal documents in court and piecing together the unusual life of Barry Sherman and his rise to founder and CEO of pharmaceutical company Apotex. “Everyone points fingers in the book. I look at all of these theories and end with the most likely scenario,” he says.

Donovan is one of Canada’s most celebrated investigative journalists. He has reported from the battlefields in the Gulf War and Afghanistan War, penned a book on the downfall of disgraced CBC broadcaster Jian Ghomeshi and covered the scandal of Toronto Mayor Rob Ford smoking crack cocaine while in office. The Sherman murders have consumed Donovan’s life for much of the past two years. In a fireside chat with NYFWA board member and Bloomberg reporter Olivia Carville, Donovan will discuss his research, reporting and writing process -- and shed light on internecine Sherman family battles reminiscent of plot lines in the hit television show Succession.

The evening will begin at 6pm with a reception featuring drinks and appetizers. The discussion will begin at 7pm and the evening will wrap up by 8.30pm. The Billionaire Murders will be available for purchase for $20 cash at the event.
