The NYFWA Mourns the Loss of Our Beloved Member George Auerbach

Longtime and beloved NYFWA member George Auerbach passed away on July 31, 2016. As one of the NYFWA’s most active members for several decades –having participated in the Financial Follies for 55 consecutive shows before hanging up his hat (or tights) and having served on the board for several decades, George’s absence will be felt within our organization. In honor of his devotion to the NYFWA and the mark he left on our organization a scholarship has been established in his name.

July 31, 2016 – The Common Ground Committee’s Debate on Tax Reform in Nantucket, MA

NYFWA members are invited to attend a debate on tax reform featuring former Congressman Barney Frank.

Common Ground Committee, a non-profit group dedicated to fostering civil discourse and finding common ground on controversial policy issues, is holding a public forum Sunday, July 31 at 8 pm on the topic, “Finding Common Ground on Taxes.” The forum will be held at the Unitarian Meeting House at 11 Orange St. in Nantucket, MA

July 31, 2016 – Picnic in Central Park

Don’t let the dog days of summer get you down. Instead, why not gather with your friends and family, along with some of your fellow NYFWA members, for a picnic in Central Park. We’ll supply the food and snacks, we just ask that everyone please bring their own beverages. We hope you can join us! And feel free to bring along prospective members.

July 14, 2016 – Networking Night & Wine Tasting

Join your fellow NYFWA members, along with members of the financial journalism community at large, for an evening of networking and socializing. This event will include appetizers and a wine tasting guided by Some Good Wine's sommelier. This event is being co-hosted by student lending platform CommonBond and will take place at their offices in SoHo.

Elliot Bell Award Presentation Examines Whether We Can Predict the Next Financial Crisis

This year's Elliott V. Bell Award ceremony delved into the question of whether or not journalists can predict the next financial crisis. 

     

May 18, 2016 – The NYFWA's 40th Elliott V. Bell Award Ceremony

Join members of the New York Financial Writers’ Association for the presentation of our 2015 Elliott V. Bell Award, which will be awarded to Dan Hertzberg for his significant contribution to the world of financial journalism during his 46 year career. Hertzberg, a 1988 Pulitzer Prize winner, is the 40th recipient of the Elliott V. Bell Award, which is named after the NYFWA’s founding president and which recognizes individuals who have made long-term contributions to financial journalism and have had a significant impact on the industry.
