October 3rd, 2017 – Tipper X: The Inside Story of a Whistleblower

Hear how Tom Hardin went from being a successful long-short equity analyst, to an inside trader and eventually a central whistleblower in the FBI's 2007-2008 investigation of the hedge fund industry. Known only as "Tipper X" until his identity was ultimately revealed by the FBI, Hardin was a critical figure in the bureau's investigation and ultimately helped build more than 20 criminal cases, including the demise of $3.7 billion hedge fund firm Galleon Group.

June 29, 2017 – First 2017 Financial Follies Book Committee Meeting

November may still be 5 ½ months away, but it is time to start thinking about this year’s Financial Follies –which will clearly not suffer from a lack of material! If you are interested in helping to generate topic ideas and write songs for this year’s show, you won’t want to miss the first meeting of the Financial Follies book committee.

 

The First 2017 Financial Follies book committee meeting will be on Thursday, June 29 at 6 p.m. at Pete's Tavern.

May 8th, 2017 – May Networking Night/2017 Scholarship Presentations

Join your fellow NYFWA members to honor recipients of the New York Financial Writers' Association's 2017 scholarships -the next crop of financial journalists. 

As always, the evening will feature light appetizers and NYFWA members’ first two drinks are on us.

March 8, 2017 – America’s Retirement Crisis: How it Happened and How to Fix It

As more Americans than ever before approach retirement with inadequate savings in their 401(k) plans, the issue of retirement security is becoming a hot topic. What can be done to reform retirement plans so the next generation can avoid some of the pitfalls that plagued baby boomers, such as high fees, inadequate contributions and poor investment returns? Join an evening hosted by Blackstone and the New York Financial Writers’ Association that will explore the problems and solutions to America’s retirement crisis.
