This year marks 80 years since the New York Financial Writers' Association was originally established during the depression -the first organization of its kind devoted to business and financial journalism. To mark the NYFWA's first eight decades of existence and everything from the 75 Financial Follies we've held since, to the countless educational and networking events and the hundreds of thousands of dollars given out in scholarships to aspiring financial journalists, we are holding an 80th anniversary party.

Greg David spent more than two decades as the editor of Crain’s, covering the city’s business, economic and political issues. He appears frequently on media outlets discussing political and business issues, is the author of “Modern New York: The Life and Economics of a City,” now serves as the director of the business journalism program at the CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, in addition to continuing to write a blog and print column for Crain’s New York Business.

Join your fellow NYFWA members for a panel discussion that will cover several aspects of the nascent cryptocurrency industry, such as: what's happening with the cryptocurrency markets, which virtual currencies are over-hyped and under-hyped, and what are the most promising, near-term applications of blockchain technology. We'll also discuss what stories should be getting more attention in the space and how journalists should approach covering this topic.

In an event co-sponsored by The Modern Money Network & The New School, Pulitzer Prize winner Jesse Eisinger will discuss his new book "The Chickenshit Club: Why the Justice Department Fails to Prosecute Executives," along with a panel of financial regulators featuring William K. Black, an Associate Professor of Law and Economics at the University of Missouri-Kansas City and Vanessa Assae-Bille, an enforcement attorney at the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau.
