Sheila Mullan Named 2013 Emil P. Meier Award Winner

Congratulations to longtime NYFWA member and former president Sheila Mullan on being named the 2013 Emil P. Meier Award recipient for her commitment to the Financial Follies. Mullan was presented her award by current NYFWA president Pierre Paulden at the Financial Follies Cast Party, which was held on Friday, March 22nd at the Junior League of New York's headquarters.

New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants' Excellence in Financial Journalism Contest is Underway

The New York State Society of Certified Public Accountants’ Excellence in Financial Journalism Awards is now accepting submissions from journalists and reporters for its 2014 contest. The EFJ Awards honor professional and student journalists for distinguished reporting that cultivates, promotes and disseminates understanding of accounting, finance and business topics. This year marks the 31st annual contest. Judging will begin in March, winners are announced in April and a formal awards ceremony will be held May 1.

Honoring Jane Reilly's Years of Service

More than 65 NYFWA members gathered at the New York Junior League's headquarters on October 17th for Jane Reilly's retirement party, honoring her 13 years of service to our organization.

Remembering Jerry Sherman

Jerry Sherman, 83, a long-time member of the New York Financial Writers' Association, died peacefully at his home near Albany, NY, where he lived in recent years with Bobbie, his wife of 58 years. Jerry began his career in journalism at the tender age of 16 as a copy boy on the New York Journal of Commerce while he was still in high school in the Bronx. He rose to reporter, associate editor and foreign correspondent and joined the NYFWA in the late 1940s.

Remembering David Mulcahy

Longtime NYFWA member David Mulcahy passed away at the age of 90 on October 2, 2013 at his home in Newtown, PA. Mulchay retired in 1996 as the editor of Standard & Poor's Daily News, following 35 years with the company. Nonetheless, he still kept his hand in financial journalism unitl the time of his death, serving as the director of communications for the Finance & Budget Commission and secretary of the Property, Maintenance & Improvement Commission, according to his obituary in Trenton's The Times.
