NYFWA Honors Tom Herman as 2013 Elliott Bell Winner

On June 18,2014, The New York Financial Writers’ Association presented its Elliott V. Bell Award to Tom Herman for his contribution to financial journalism. In his 40 years at The Wall Street Journal, Herman’s coverage of taxes and his ability to demystify the code for millions of Americans helped make him a legend and a stalwart in the newsroom. More recently, Herman has been passing on his extensive knowledge to the next generation of writers as a teacher at Yale and Columbia Journalism School,

Longtime NYFWA member Dorothea "Dottie" Brooks passed away back in April.

Members and Guests Honor 2014 Scholarship Winners, Learn of Wall Street's 7 Sins

More than 50 NYFWA members and guests attended this year's scholarship presentation, where winners were each presented $3,000 checks towards the cost of their education. Once again, ten winners were awarded scholarships, with winners representing schools including Columbia Graduate School of Journalism, CUNY Graduate School of Journalism, New York University and Syracuse University.

Remembering Jerry Goldstein

Longtime NYFWA friend Jerry Goldstein, director of the Financial Follies for several decades, passed away May 5, at the age of 91. His funeral was held on May 6, at 12:45 p.m. at Sinai Chapels, 162-05 Horace Harding Expressway, Fresh Meadows, New York.

Remembering Alan Gersten

Former NYFWA president and longtime member Alan Gersten passed away on March 17 in New York City at age 72, following a lengthy battle against leukemia. Mr. Gersten, a former president of the New York Financial Writer’s Association from 1999 to 2000, has an impressive journalism career that spanned decades. He was a reporter and editor for varied publications such as the Omaha World-Herald, the Rocky Mountain News, the Miami News, United Press International, the Journal of Commerce, Bridge News, Project Finance International (PFI) and Thomson Reuters.

Sheila Mullan Named 2013 Emil P. Meier Award Winner

Congratulations to longtime NYFWA member and former president Sheila Mullan on being named the 2013 Emil P. Meier Award recipient for her commitment to the Financial Follies. Mullan was presented her award by current NYFWA president Pierre Paulden at the Financial Follies Cast Party, which was held on Friday, March 22nd at the Junior League of New York's headquarters.
